About The Playground & Joel Courtney
Joel Courtney is one of the talented individuals who attended The Playground and became a promising young actor. 22-year old Joel rose to fame thanks to his role in the 2011 science fiction horror film Super 8 where he portrayed the role of Joseph “Joe“ Lamb. Proof of Joel’s impressive acting skills and the quality of our program is the fact he was awarded with a Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor for this role.
Joel proved to be a talented actor and landed another notable role in the 2015 series The Messengers as part of the main cast in the role of Peter Moore. Courtney applied what he learned here at our conservatory to become a prolific actor. In 2012, he was cast in the Stephen King movie titled Mercy followed by another role in the supernatural film Don’t Let Me Go. Joel continued to land successful gigs in the indie films Dear Eleanor and Sins of Our Youth.
Joel has been active in the film industry since 2010, and in 2016 he landed the lead role in the indie film The River Thief. He also appeared in another indie film titled F the Prom that same year. Young Joel’s most recent role was alongside Joel King in the 2018 Netflix movie titled The Kissing Booth.
