Performance anxiety is most commonly expressed as a fear of public speaking; however, those whose careers or extracurricular interests require them to go on the “stage” for others, such as actors, dancers, musicians, and so on, will also experience stage fright as a result of their nerves.
Overcome Stage Fright
The first step toward overcoming your public speaking fears is to recognize that they are preventing you from living your life to the fullest. When you start to feel nervous about speaking in front of a group, it’s a sign that you haven’t been paying attention to how your body reacts in different situations. When you start paying attention to how your body feels while speaking, you will start to understand the physical cause of your anxiety.
The next step is to make a list of the symptoms you have when you are nervous about speaking in front of an audience. Now, go through the list again, one by one. You’ll notice that fewer of those symptoms apply to you. Once you’ve identified the symptoms that apply to you, keep track of how many times you felt anxious on each occasion.
