Meet Acting Teacher
JANET DAVIDSON
Janet Davidson is a veteran comedian, improviser, actor, and educator with more than two decades of experience in performance and improvisational theatre. A graduate of Algonquin College’s Theatre Arts program and The Second City Conservatory, Janet has continued her professional training with The Annoyance Theatre in Chicago and The Groundlings in Los Angeles.
Janet is a Faculty Member at The Second City Training Centre and an alumna of both the Vancouver TheatreSports League Mainstage and Instant Theatre. Throughout her career, she has taught improvisation and acting to students of all ages and experience levels across North America. Her teaching focuses on helping performers build confidence, strengthen storytelling skills, trust their instincts, and create authentic, connected performances.
As a performer and creator, Janet co-created and co-hosted The Second City’s The Homemade Jam, a long-running interactive virtual show designed to give improvisers a place to perform, experiment, learn, and grow. She also created the acclaimed improv show #NoFilter, which ran for more than a year at Vancouver TheatreSports and explored the humor and humanity of our increasingly connected digital lives. Janet directed Canadiano, a one-act improvised play featured at the Hideout Theatre’s Improvised Play Festival in Austin, Texas. Her work has been featured in Business Insider and The Globe and Mail.
In addition to her work on stage, Janet has appeared in numerous national television commercials across North America, giving her extensive professional on-camera experience. She brings that real-world knowledge into the classroom, helping students understand how improvisation, preparation, presence, and authenticity translate to performance on camera as well as on stage.
At The Playground, A Young Actors’ Conservatory, Janet is passionate about helping young actors discover their authentic voices while developing the confidence, spontaneity, and collaborative skills essential to becoming strong performers. Her classes encourage students to take creative risks, trust themselves, listen to others, and find the freedom and joy that come from truly being present in the moment.
Janet is honored to join the Staff at The Playground and to share her passion for acting and improvisation with the next generation of young artists. She believes that every actor has a unique voice to discover, and she is excited to help students find the confidence to let that voice be heard.
